Reliability Program Plan & Roadmap
A reliability program is the set of engineering tasks that build reliability into a product and prove it, spread across the development lifecycle instead of bolted on at the end. The roadmap organizes those tasks into six phases — Concept & Requirements, Design & Analysis, Development & Test Planning, Verification & Qualification, Production & Process Control, and Field & Sustainment — following the task structure of MIL-STD-785B and the dependability lifecycle of IEC 60300, and links each task to the calculator that performs it.

Common mistakes
- Treating the roadmap as a fixed checklist. A Reliability Program Plan is tailored to the product and contract — drop tasks that do not apply and add ones a safety-critical or defense program requires.
- Counting a task done because the tool was opened. A task is complete when the analysis was performed and its result acted on in the design or process.
- Starting reliability work at the test phase. Most leverage is in the concept and design phases, where requirements, allocation and FMECA shape the architecture.
- Skipping the field-and-sustainment loop. Without FRACAS and warranty analysis, the program never learns whether its predictions were right.
